AFRICA REGION WEBINAR"ROLE OF ESC-SIs IN THE POST COVID SOCIAL SITUATION"

On February 23, 2021, a webinar for the African ESC-SIs took place on the exchange of experiences of the socio-economic effects of the pandemic, socio-political responses and the role of social dialogue institutions in this area.

This is the second regional webinar on these topics (the previous one was dedicated to the Latin America and Caribbean region). It was held with the collaboration of UCESA and the participation of ILO, which provided their expertise, experience and information on the socio-economic impact of the pandemic.

The webinar highlighted the usefulness of this international exchange of experiences regarding a global socio-economic crisis. The participants underlined not only the serious impact of the pandemic on employment but also the diversity of the effects by territory and social group, making necessary a diversity of public actions but also of social actors. The role of ESC-SIs should be intensified, in particular as regards measures to stimulate the economy and employment, so that this happens with an adequate balance between economic efficiency and social cohesion.
